There are five core skills according to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning.
- Self Awareness
- Self Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Responsible Decision Making
All of these skills are linked to having a more healthy and productive life. Our personal and professional lives depend on our ability to acquire these skills, which can be taught.
One of the strategies for developing these skills is to read books that contain social-emotional scenarios.
Reading books life Free Agent and having your students complete the curriculum can provide opportunities to learn and discuss social-emotional topics, such as turn-taking and cooperation.
