The Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame plans to celebrate its 10th class with an impressive keynote speaker and another strong class of inductees.

Legendary Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, a six-time national champion, is the featured guest of the event, scheduled for May 1 at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place in Duluth. All proceeds from the induction ceremony and dinner go to the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation’s scholarships and academic initiatives.

The 2019 inductees are former Shiloh softball star Megan Wiggins, longtime South Gwinnett baseball coach John Sawyer, Norcross and Clemson team manager David Saville, former Collins Hill and Norcross basketball coach Angie Hembree, Brookwood and Georgia Bulldogs football player Rennie Curran and South Gwinnett grad Mickey Conn, a former Grayson and current Clemson coach.

Curran was a three-time All-American and All-SEC linebacker at UGA — he had 284 tackles in three seasons before turning pro — and was selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He also played in the Canadian Football League before injuries ended his career. He now works as a keynote speaker, author, personal development coach, and entreprenuer.

The inductees will be recognized at the May 1 event, which begins with a 5:30 p.m. mixer and silent auction. Saban speaks at 6:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony and dinner at 7:15. Buck Lanford of Fox 5 Atlanta is the evening’s emcee.

“Don’t miss your chance to walk among legends at the 10th annual Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame Dinner featuring keynote speaker, Alabama Crimson Tide’s Coach Nick Saban,” GCPS Foundation senior executive director Aaron Lupuloff said. “Proceeds from this powerful night of recognition will be dedicated to academic initiatives benefiting the students and teachers of Gwinnett County Public Schools.”
